The first facility of its kind will be built in Arizona thanks to a partnership between the Rob and Melani Walton Sustainability Solutions Service at Arizona State University and waste-to-energy provider Clean-Seas.
A memorandum of agreement between the two parties was recently inked in order to build a $50 million plastic-to-clean hydrogen factory.
In accordance with the agreement, Rob and Melani Walton Sustainability Solutions Service will provide access to its network of almost 800 Global Futures scientists and academics while Clean-Seas will build the building. The service will also provide access to its ASU-based headquarters.
The proposed plant is anticipated to divert plastic garbage from landfills and incinerators and source it from the Phoenix metro area. After that, this material will be transformed into plastic with a recycled portion and the unique clean hydrogen product made by Clean-Seas.
