Enapter develops plug & play electrolyzer

Enapter, a German electrolyzer maker, has presented a new “plug-and-play” electrolyzer that is stated to be appropriate for projects of all sizes.

The proprietary anion exchange membrane (AEM) electrolyzer that the business has been developing since 2017 is now in its fourth version. The producer claims that its technique uses less expensive materials than rival proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers. Enapter’s new product is ISO 22734 approved and is lighter and smaller than prior models. For projects of any scale, the standardized modules may be connected together.

The AEM electrolyzer comes in four different configurations: AC, DC, air-cooled, and water-cooled. It is claimed that it can produce 1.0785 kg of high-purity hydrogen each day. The greatest power consumption is 3.0W, with 0.4 liters of water consumed every hour. The gadget is 482x635x266mm in size and weighs 38kg.

In answer to a question concerning the cost of the electrolyzer from pv magazine, Enapter indicated that while the new electrolyzer is not yet in mass production, it can already provide a price savings of up to 35% over the prior module.

“With the ramp-up of mass production in Germany, the cost of producing green hydrogen will fall below the cost of producing hydrogen from fossil fuels,” a company spokeswoman claimed.

The plug-and-play devices might be utilized in a wide range of applications, supporting decarbonization in the energy, transportation, manufacturing, and construction industries. Furthermore, it is simple to set up. “The EL 4.0 will serve as a foundation for system integrators, allowing them to easily integrate hydrogen production and achieve the worldwide market ramp-up required.” “We are certain that mass manufacturing of these AEM electrolyzers in the future will significantly revolutionize the generation of green hydrogen,” said Sebastian-Justus Schmidt, Enapter’s co-founder, and CEO.
