Gujarat Gas and NTPC have partnered to develop a new effort at NTPC Kawas called green hydrogen mixing in Piped Natural Gas (PNG).
The initiative is a first for both organizations and is the first of its sort in the country. This is a step toward decarbonizing the residential sector and achieving national energy self-sufficiency.
Green hydrogen will be generated by the electrolysis of water at NTPC Kawas’s 1 MW floating solar facility.
This will be combined with PNG at a predetermined ratio and utilized in the NTPC Kawas township’s cooking applications.
GGL’s network in Hazira will be expanded up to the NTPC premise township, following which hydrogen blending will begin. Initially, the percentage of hydrogen mixing in the PNG will be around 5%, but will be increased upon successful completion.
