Duke energy has reduced residential power bills by about 3.6 percent. As a result, average residential consumers who use 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity a month and purchase electric supply from Duke Energy Ohio will pay around $114 a month beginning with their June bills. That’s down about $4.24 from May.

The reason for this reduction is the price Duke Energy Ohio pays to buy electricity for its customers who have opted not to switch their power supply to a third party energy provider. Duke Energy Ohio uses a competitive auction mechanism to ensure these customers have electricity.
Overall, the recent winning bids were lower than previous offers –resulting in lower charges for the electric supply portion of monthly power bills.
Duke Energy Ohio provides power to over 650.000 homes across south-western Ohio. Approximately 43.5 percent of these customers rely on Duke Energy Ohio to obtain electricity on their behalf, which will see lower rates beginning in June. The remaining consumers receive electricity from third-party energy providers, and the reduction does not affect their bills.
