BEEAH Group, Chinook Sciences, Air Water team up for waste to hydrogen plant

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to create fuel cell quality hydrogen from waste wood and plastic has been signed by BEEAH Group, Chinook Sciences, and Air Water.

The MoU that was signed in Japan is the first step toward creating a consortium that will pursue development of Sharjah’s first waste-to-hydrogen facility and look into additional potential elsewhere in the Middle East.

The Sharjah Waste to Hydrogen plant will convert scrap wood and plastic into fuel-cell grade green hydrogen using BEEAH’s experience in waste management and material recovery, Chinook Sciences’ proprietary RODECS pyrolysis and gasification process, and Air Water’s hydrogen refinement technology.

An on-site green hydrogen dispensing station with the capacity to refuel many vehicles is included in the plans for the Waste to Hydrogen project. The plant will need to create fuel cell grade hydrogen in order to realize this cutting-edge form of fueling station, which will be made possible by Air Water’s Hydrogen Refinement technology. Green fuel cell-grade hydrogen will be created from syngas using Chinook Sciences’ RODECS pyrolysis and gasification process after being fed into the hydrogen refinement system. The grade hydrogen for PEM fuel cells will be generated specifically to ISO14687 or SAEJ2719 requirements.

Since 2004, the engineering division of Air Water, based in New Jersey, has collaborated with Chinook Sciences on the active pyrolysis technology used in the multi-patent RODECS process, an all-purpose thermal treatment system. The RODECS conversion processes are intricately known by Air Water and Chinook Sciences, and their expertise will be crucial to the Waste to Hydrogen project’s success with BEEAH Group.

BEEAH Group and Chinook Sciences Green originally announced the Sharjah Waste to Hydrogen facility in May 2021. Later that year, with the start of the development plans, the project became official.
