Advent opening manufacturing and R&D facility in Massachusetts

The new manufacturing and research facility for Advent Technologies Holdings is debuting at Hood Park in Charlestown, Massachusetts.

The new facility is a sizable investment in Advent’s future development and will help the company scale up more quickly and meet the growing demand for electrochemical components in the clean energy industry on a global scale.

The thriving innovation and R&D ecosystem of Boston is home to Advent’s Hood Park location, which has a total space of about 21,000 square feet. The company’s corporate office personnel, who were formerly situated at 200 Clarendon Street in downtown Boston, and its research and development team, who were formerly based in Greentown Labs in Somerville, Massachusetts, are now housed in the same location. Advent wants to streamline its operations and promote a more inventive and collaborative work environment by combining these two teams under one roof.

Modern coating machines to support the smooth transition from prototypes to initial production runs for advanced membranes and electrodes for both fuel cells and low-cost hydrogen production are just a few of the cutting-edge tools and facilities available at Advent’s recently opened facility. Another is a fully analytical facility devoted to quality control, failure analysis, and extending product lifetime.

The ion-pair Advent MEA, which is currently being developed as part of the Company’s joint development program with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Los Alamos National Laboratory, Brookhaven National Laboratory, and National Renewable Energy Laboratory, will be produced at Advent’s Hood Park facility along with other cutting-edge goods.

With the ion-pair MEA technology, Advent aims to produce fuel cells that can last at least three times longer and deliver twice the power density of its prior systems, revolutionizing the worldwide MEA market. This next-generation PEM-based fuel cells would be an excellent option for heavy-duty mobility applications since they could operate reliably at temperatures beyond 100°C for more than 20,000 hours. In accordance with its growth strategy, the relocation to the Hood Park facility will allow Advent to greatly increase the production capacity of the ion-pair Advent MEA.
