The State of Ceará in Brazil and the Netherlands are set to sign a document for the creation of the Green Hydrogen Corridor and the Green Ports Partnership. The initiative aims to boost the implementation of the green hydrogen hub in the Pecém Complex and strengthen the State’s position as a leader in the internationalization of green hydrogen in Brazil.
The Port of Rotterdam seeks to become the No. 1 port for importing sustainable energy in Europe, with more than 80 project connections in likely exporting countries. The choice of locations is based on countries that have a strategy for the production and export of hydrogen, as well as sufficient renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, hydroelectric, and geothermal. The stability of the country, ease of doing business, quality of infrastructure, and jurisdiction are also considered.
The Pecém Industrial Port Complex managed jointly with Ceará, is highlighted for its ample room for development in the industrial zone, which allows for quick and active response to companies and customers. The estimated export of 2.2 million tons of green hydrogen from the Pecém Hub in the next decade is expected to contribute to the total demand projected by Rotterdam for 2032.
