In a historic visit, the External Affairs Minister of India, Jaishankar, traveled to Namibia to solidify bilateral ties and establish a roadmap for cooperation across multiple sectors.

Energy collaboration emerged as a key focus area during the inaugural meeting of the India-Namibia Joint Commission. The partnership aims to explore opportunities in the energy sector, including oil and gas, green hydrogen, and solar energy. Additionally, both nations are committed to collaborating on infrastructure development, particularly in railways, roads, ports, electricity transmission, and water usage.

The deep-rooted connection between India and Namibia, founded on shared struggles for freedom, provides a solid foundation for their growing partnership. Over the past three decades, this bond has transformed into a development partnership, fostering capacity building, trade expansion, and initial investments. The recently inaugurated India-Namibia Centre of Excellence in Information Technology (INCEIT) serves as a tangible symbol of their collaboration.

The India-Namibia Joint Commission aims to elevate the partnership to new heights, with a particular emphasis on the energy sector. Indian companies, renowned as global players, are well-positioned to become significant investors, technology providers, and business collaborators. The focus on green hydrogen and solar energy aligns with India’s commitment to renewable energy and Namibia’s potential as a hub for clean energy development.

Infrastructure development is another crucial aspect of the bilateral cooperation. India’s track record of successfully delivering substantial projects in Africa paves the way for new partnerships between India and Namibia in areas such as railways, roads, ports, and electricity transmission. By leveraging India’s expertise and experience, Namibia aims to accelerate its infrastructure development and enhance connectivity.

The commitment to strengthen bilateral ties and explore new avenues of cooperation showcases the shared vision of India and Namibia for a prosperous future built on mutual respect and collaboration. The potential impact of this partnership extends beyond economic growth, as it holds the promise of creating sustainable energy solutions, improving connectivity, and benefiting the citizens of both countries.
