Bramble Energy, a pioneer in fuel cell technology, has expressed its support for Clean Air Day while advocating for increased investment in hydrogen technology as a solution to combat air pollution and promote sustainable transportation.

Air pollution remains a critical environmental and health issue, necessitating the prioritization of sustainable transportation alternatives.

Recognizing the detrimental effects of air pollution on physical and mental well-being, Bramble Energy is urging industries to embrace hydrogen as a viable clean and zero-emission solution for transportation. Hydrogen vehicles emit only water vapor, offering the unique ability to cleanse the air as they operate, thereby reducing emissions and improving air quality.

Hydrogen’s potential as a clean solution for various mobility industries is substantial. With the urgent need to decarbonize the highly polluting transportation sector, hydrogen, especially when produced from renewable sources (Green Hydrogen), presents a sustainable alternative to fossil fuel-powered vehicles that complements battery electrification.

Dr. Tom Mason, CEO of Bramble Energy, emphasized the importance of a multi-energy approach across industries to meet net-zero targets. While battery electric vehicles (BEVs) continue to improve, they are not the sole solution. Bramble Energy’s innovative Printed Circuit Board Fuel Cell (PCBFC) technology provides a cost-effective pathway for transitioning to hydrogen without significant upfront investments. The goal is to make hydrogen fuel cells more accessible to a wide range of industries, driving closer to achieving net-zero emissions. Hydrogen is set to play a significant role in the zero-emission solution in the coming decade, but it requires support and vision for swift implementation.

Bramble Energy’s revolutionary PCBFC technology leverages Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) in the manufacturing process of fuel cells. This approach offers unprecedented efficiency advantages compared to traditional manufacturing methods, enabling cost-effective and scalable production of fuel cells for various applications.

The digitally tooled manufacturing process of PCBFC significantly reduces costs and turnaround times, addressing two major barriers to hydrogen adoption. Design, manufacture, testing, and shipping of a PCBFC can now be accomplished within weeks, facilitating faster deployment of hydrogen solutions.

The affordability of PCBFC technology, with its lower material, production, and manufacturing costs at the stack level, makes it two to three times cheaper than traditional fuel cell stacks. This cost advantage, coupled with the flexibility in manufacturing and business models, expands the accessibility of hydrogen fuel cells to a wide range of industries and businesses, facilitating the transition to a net-zero future.

Government interest in hydrogen solutions has grown, with substantial support and funding initiatives for projects. Bramble Energy, for instance, received £6.3 million as part of the Hydrogen Electric Integrated Drivetrain Initiative (HEIDI) project, which aims to develop a hydrogen-powered double-deck bus utilizing the company’s unique PCB fuel cell technology. Such initiatives highlight the need for increased investment in hydrogen fuel cell technologies across various sectors, from haulage and freight to bus and coach fleet operators, to meet the growing demand for sustainable transportation.
