JTC and Spectronik begin testing hydrogen trucks

The fourth quarter of 2023 will see the beginning of trials for Singapore’s first hydrogen fuel cell-powered light commercial vehicle (LCV), according to statutory board JTC and Singapore-based fuel cell maker Spectronik on Monday (July 3).

A single prototype light truck that has been altered from an existing electric vehicle (EV) model will be tested for a year. The hydrogen-powered car, known as the “Cruiser,” will go slowly on roads inside the Jurong Innovation District; the Land Transport Authority still needs to approve the specific route.

According to Jogjaman Jap, CEO of Spectronik, the trial’s objective is to assess the viability of fuel cell technology from a business standpoint in a practical context. This entails comprehending the vehicle’s regular operations as well as maintenance, scalability, and hydrogen storage and transportation.

BMW iX5 Hydrogen undergoing testing in UK

The brand-new BMW iX5 Hydrogen is presently undergoing testing, and according to BMW, a pilot fleet of the car has traveled to the UK. Less than 100 vehicles make up the fleet, and the car has been undergoing testing for some time.

The cars have been in development for the previous four years and are currently being rigorously tested before their debut. BMW began their pilot fleet for this new Hydrogen SUV back in February.

Internationally, the fleet is being used for demonstration and testing reasons. For those who weren’t part in the development process, this active driving experience will be their first opportunity to directly feel what the BMW iX5 Hydrogen has to offer.

Southern Africa’s Green Hydrogen Atlas promotes sustainable energy transition

The innovative Green Hydrogen Atlas Southern Africa was unveiled by Dr. Jane Olwoch, Executive Director of the Southern African Science Service Centre for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management (SASSCAL), and Dr. Solomon Agbo, Coordinator of H2Atlas Africa at Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH, Germany. They worked together with the Regional Technical Committee and National Teams. The H2Atlas interactive map provides access to this extensive atlas, which provides evidence-based information on a variety of resources essential for producing green hydrogen, such as water supplies, land availability, renewable energy sources, and cost indicators. In order to analyze the potential for green hydrogen development in the Southern African region, the atlas intends to help decision-makers, investors, researchers, and possible funders. The second half of the year will see national launches.
