Pollination’s Mega Project Interconnects Solar Farm and Green Hydrogen Hub

Pollination, an Australian clean energy investor, has unveiled plans for the East Kimberley Clean Energy Project, a sprawling AU$3 billion initiative that will be the first fully green hydrogen and ammonia production hub in the nation.

The ambitious project aims to develop a 900 MW solar farm, making it the largest solar farm in Australia. Additionally, it includes a 50,000-tons-per-year green hydrogen plant that will leverage solar energy, freshwater, and hydropower to produce green hydrogen.

The East Kimberley Clean Energy Project is poised to bring transformative change to the region and the country as a whole. It aligns with Australia’s efforts to decarbonize and transition towards a sustainable future by leveraging its natural resources and clean energy potential.

A unique aspect of the project is the “first-of-its-kind partnership” with the traditional landowners in the region. Pollination has formed the Aboriginal Clean Energy (ACE) partnership, where equal shares are held by the Balanggarra Aboriginal Corporation, MG Corporation, and the Kimberley Land Council. This approach ensures that traditional owners are not just stakeholders but shareholders in the benefits of the project, emphasizing community involvement and sustainable development.

The solar farm, existing hydro power, and port facilities will synergize to enable green hydrogen production. Freshwater from Lake Kununurra and hydropower from the Ord Hydrogen Power Plant at Lake Argyle will power the green hydrogen production process.

The East Kimberley Clean Energy Project represents a beacon of hope for Australia’s clean energy future. By harnessing the abundant solar energy and innovative green hydrogen production methods, the project aims to decarbonize and grow new industries while benefiting local communities. As the nation takes a pioneering step towards sustainable energy, the collaboration with traditional landowners marks a significant milestone in creating a just and ambitious clean energy hub.
