Air Liquide, partnered in six out of the seven hydrogen hubs. This exceptional commitment cements Air Liquide’s reputation as a driving force in hydrogen development.

These Clean Hydrogen Hubs represent not only an ambitious undertaking but also a critical element of the nation’s hydrogen strategy. Air Liquide’s active involvement in these hubs signifies the company’s commitment to creating a robust and reliable hydrogen network, ultimately bringing it to a substantial scale.

These hubs, selected for funding negotiation by the Department of Energy, have the potential to receive up to $7 billion in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) funding. Their collective goal is to lay the groundwork for a nationwide hydrogen network that will significantly expedite hydrogen adoption within the U.S. energy transition.

Air Liquide’s Crucial Roles in the Hydrogen Hubs

Among the seven hubs, Air Liquide is a core industry sponsor in the HyVelocity Hub, which covers the Gulf Coast region. Collaborating with its partners, the company aims to optimize the existing energy infrastructure in the Gulf Coast, particularly benefiting Texas, Southwest Louisiana, and neighboring areas. This initiative not only accelerates hydrogen development but also supports local economies.

In addition, Air Liquide is a partner with projects in the PNWH2 Hub (Pacific Northwest), ARCH2 Hub (Appalachia), and MACHH2 Hub (Midwest). These partnerships further underscore the company’s dedication to advancing the clean energy transition and establishing the requisite infrastructure for hydrogen production, transportation, and distribution.

Furthermore, Air Liquide is also a partner of the Alliance for Renewable Clean Hydrogen Energy Systems in California (ARCHES) network and the Mid-Atlantic Clean Hydrogen Hub (MACH2™). These collaborative efforts offer Air Liquide a platform to provide its expertise and work in unison with other partners to shape the foundational infrastructure for hydrogen. This infrastructure is vital for the growth and sustainability of the emerging hydrogen market.

A Catalyst for Low-Carbon Solutions

Matthieu Giard, the Chief Executive Officer of the Americas Hub at Air Liquide, aptly notes that a robust U.S. hydrogen market is fundamental to advancing the transition to a low-carbon economy. This aligns seamlessly with Air Liquide’s ADVANCE strategy. The company is not merely a partner in the selected Hydrogen Hubs; it’s a pioneer in delivering on the promise of low-carbon solutions.

In a world where numerous industry sectors are grappling with the pressing need for decarbonization, hydrogen is emerging as a versatile solution. The environmental and economic benefits of hydrogen are set to reshape industries and pave the way for a sustainable future. With initiatives like the Hydrogen Hubs, the United States is poised to drive hydrogen innovation and solidify its position in the clean energy revolution.

As Air Liquide and its partners embark on the journey to develop these hubs, they are not just building an infrastructure. They are laying the groundwork for a mature domestic hydrogen market, marking a significant stride toward a greener, more sustainable future.
