Dubai-based ENOC Group and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) have joined forces to launch a green hydrogen fuel station at Expo City Dubai, coinciding with the COP28 summit currently taking place.

The collaboration marks a significant milestone in advancing sustainable transportation and supporting the UAE’s ambitious goals in the hydrogen sector.

The primary goal of the partnership between ENOC and DEWA is to establish a cutting-edge green hydrogen fuel station, known as the Service Station of the Future (SSoF), at Expo City Dubai. This station is set to become a unique facility in the region, offering green hydrogen alongside traditional hydrocarbon fuels and electric vehicle charging stations. The initiative aligns with the broader vision of promoting clean energy solutions and sustainable mobility.

The SSoF aims to cater to the diverse needs of drivers by providing dual fuelling options at 350 and 700 bar. This versatility ensures compatibility with different types of fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs). The station’s design allows for a swift fuelling experience, with an estimated fuelling speed of approximately 7 minutes per vehicle. This efficiency is crucial in enhancing the appeal and practicality of green hydrogen vehicles.

The green hydrogen supplied by DEWA originates from its pilot plant situated in the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. Using a 1.25 MW PEM electrolyser, DEWA produces green hydrogen at a rate of 20 kg per hour, utilizing solar power during daylight hours. The collaboration with ENOC signifies a tangible step towards integrating green hydrogen into the mainstream fueling infrastructure.

Al-Futtaim Motors Toyota, serving as the Strategic E-Mobility Partner of COP28, plays a pivotal role in the project. The company is providing ENOC Group and DEWA with four hydrogen-powered fuel cell Toyota Mirai vehicles for testing and use during the COP28 summit. This partnership highlights the collaborative efforts between automotive manufacturers and energy providers to accelerate the integration of green hydrogen technologies.
