The Hydrogen Storage as a Service (HySaaS) project is set to redefine gaseous hydrogen storage and distribution solutions over the next 18 months.
Supported by Innovate UK, this collaborative initiative brings together industry leaders including Chesterfield Special Cylinders, the University of Sheffield, Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC), Element 2, and HIVE Hydrogen, with a mission to drive innovation and sustainability in the hydrogen sector.
The HySaaS project aims to revolutionize the hydrogen storage landscape by addressing key challenges related to cost, safety, and business models. Through a comprehensive assessment, the project seeks to significantly reduce capital costs associated with hydrogen storage by introducing a service-based model. By exploring cylinder-level monitoring and innovative business models, HySaaS aims to enhance safety, optimize operational efficiency, and accelerate the adoption of hydrogen as a clean energy solution.
At the heart of the HySaaS project lies a focus on leveraging advanced technologies to enhance storage and distribution capabilities. The initiative will explore novel approaches to cylinder-level monitoring, enabling precise risk identification and preventive maintenance actions. Additionally, the project will assess the feasibility of a rental business model for hydrogen storage assets, offering stakeholders new avenues for deployment and utilization of storage solutions.
The HySaaS project holds immense potential to drive positive change across the hydrogen industry. By reducing capital costs and improving operational efficiency, the initiative aims to lower barriers to entry for hydrogen storage solutions, thereby accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy. Enhanced safety measures and innovative business models are expected to foster greater confidence among stakeholders, paving the way for increased investment and growth in the hydrogen sector.
