Infinite Green Energy (IGE) and Axpo Holding AG (Axpo) have joined forces to spearhead the Valle Peligna Hydrogen Project in Abruzzo, Italy.
The binding Joint Development Agreement (JDA) between IGE and Axpo signifies a strategic partnership aimed at realizing the Valle Peligna Hydrogen Project’s immense potential. With a shared vision of accelerating the energy transition, this collaboration paves the way for the development of one of Italy’s largest commercial-scale renewable hydrogen plants.
Aligned with Italy’s ‘Hydrogen Valley’ strategy, the Valle Peligna Project targets brownfield sites, leveraging the industrial hub in Corfinio, Abruzzo. By harnessing renewable energy sources, including a 45MW solar plant powering a 30MW electrolyser, the project aims to produce approximately 12 tonnes per day of renewable hydrogen. This innovative approach not only facilitates decarbonization efforts but also fosters sustainability across ‘hard-to-abate’ industries and mobility sectors.
The Valle Peligna Hydrogen Project holds the promise of significant environmental impact, with projections estimating a CO2 saving of approximately 67,000 tonnes per annum. By transitioning to renewable hydrogen, the project seeks to mitigate carbon emissions, contributing substantially to the fight against climate change.
With ambitions to supply renewable hydrogen to the mobility sector by 2025, the Valle Peligna Project aligns with the European Parliament’s mandate to establish hydrogen refuelling stations every 200km along major transport routes by 2030.
