In a significant move for the hydrogen industry, the Spanish Ministry of Energy, Hydrogen and Environmental Sustainability has published a tender titled “Ingeniería para el diseño, gestión de compras, construcción y PEM de 6 Estaciones de Compresión de H2_Red Básica Troncal H2.”

The tender was issued on July 8, 2024, with a submission deadline of September 30, 2024. This is a crucial development in Spain’s efforts to bolster its hydrogen infrastructure.

The main objective of the tender is to engage a capable engineering firm to design, manage procurement, oversee construction, and provide project management for six new hydrogen compression stations essential for the country’s primary hydrogen network, Red Básica Troncal H2. This network is pivotal in Spain’s strategy to expand its hydrogen economy and reduce carbon emissions.

The tender specifies several key requirements:

1. Design and Engineering:
The selected firm must provide comprehensive design and engineering services for the six stations, ensuring they meet all regulatory standards and operational needs.

2. Procurement Management:
The firm will manage the procurement of materials and equipment necessary for the construction of the compression stations, ensuring timely delivery and cost efficiency.

3. Construction Oversight:
The firm oversees the construction phase, guaranteeing that all projects adhere to the specified timelines, budgets, and quality standards.

4. Project Management:
Ongoing project management services are required throughout the planning and execution phases, ensuring all objectives are met, and the stations are operational by the set deadlines.

Technically, these hydrogen compression stations will play a critical role in the hydrogen supply chain. They are designed to increase hydrogen gas pressure, making it easier to transport and use in various applications, from industrial processes to fueling stations for hydrogen-powered vehicles. The stations must be able to handle high volumes of hydrogen and operate continuously and safely.

By emphasizing these objectives and requirements, Spain aims to accelerate the development of its hydrogen infrastructure, a key element in meeting environmental goals and fostering a sustainable energy future. This tender represents a significant investment in the technologies and infrastructure necessary to support a growing hydrogen economy.
