TE H2, a joint venture formed by TotalEnergies and the EREN Group, is teaming up with two prominent Danish firms, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and A.P. Møller Capital. Together, they are set to kick off pre-FEED studies for a hydrogen project located in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region, right along the Atlantic coast.
The ‘Chbika’ project aims to harness the region’s natural resources by developing 1 GW of onshore solar and wind energy. This renewable energy will be used to produce green hydrogen through the electrolysis of desalinated seawater, ultimately transforming it into 200,000 tons of green ammonia annually for the European market.
In this collaboration, TE H2 and CIP will focus on renewable energy generation—think solar, wind, and green hydrogen—while A.P. Møller Capital will take charge of developing the necessary port and infrastructure. This agreement marks a first for Morocco and underscores the country’s remarkable potential in renewable energy, paving the way for economic growth and development.
Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, expressed gratitude to Moroccan authorities for their trust in this venture. He emphasized that this project aligns with their strategy to invest in countries rich in renewable resources like Morocco. Given its geographical advantages and abundant solar and wind resources, Morocco is poised to become a vital partner for Europe in achieving Green Deal objectives.

With its potential to provide clean energy to Europe while advancing its own decarbonization efforts, Morocco stands at a pivotal point in its energy landscape.

Kim Fejfer, CEO of A.P. Møller Capital, echoed these sentiments by emphasizing their commitment to developing competitive transport infrastructure as part of the green hydrogen value chain.
