The Netherlands Aerospace Centre (NLR) has signed an agreement with zepp.solutions to develop a hydrogen fuel cell system, marking a significant step towards sustainable aviation powered by liquid hydrogen.
This collaboration is aimed at enabling a manned demonstration flight in 2026 using NLR’s electric-powered research aircraft, the Pipistrel Velis Electro, which will be equipped with a hydrogen powertrain.
The partnership is part of NLR’s ‘Climate Neutral Aviation’ program, which focuses on innovative technologies to achieve climate-neutral aviation by 2050. The fuel cell system developed by zepp.solutions will be integral to this initiative, allowing NLR to explore the integration of hydrogen components and powertrains in manned aircraft.
The agreement reflects a joint commitment between NLR and zepp.solutions to advance sustainable aviation within the Dutch ecosystem. As a launching customer, NLR provides zepp with an opportunity to showcase and further develop its technology in aviation applications.
