CIC and Jinko Solar Partner to Scale Off-Grid Renewable Hydrogen Supply Chain

CIC and Jinko Solar Partner to Scale Off-Grid Renewable Hydrogen Supply Chain

Climate Impact Corporation (CIC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Jinko Solar aimed at establishing an end-to-end supply chain for off-grid renewable hydrogen production.

The agreement focuses on joint development in key areas including photovoltaic (PV) module supply, technical integration, and manufacturing scale-up. CIC’s renewable hydrogen modules rely heavily on solar power as the energy backbone for its off-grid systems, which combine PV panels, atmospheric water generators (AWGs), and electrolysers into a single operational unit. This integrated approach is designed to bypass conventional infrastructure constraints, a strategic advantage as developers seek solutions in remote or infrastructure-limited locations.

CIC Co-Founder, James Ieong commented on the announcement, “To produce the volume of renewable hydrogen that matches the offtake demand that what we’ve secured for our two 10GW projects in Australia and is growing rapidly around the world, scale is critical. We need the capability to produce tens of thousands of renewable hydrogen modules, and to do this, we need partners with deep experience and scale.

“We’re delighted that Jinko will play a significant role in our development of our end-to-end supply chain which enables us with a new approach to renewable hydrogen. This partnership with Jinko will be critical in furthering CIC’s pathway towards a competitive price of $2 per kilogram of renewable hydrogen.”

This model of vertically integrated, modular hydrogen systems reflects a shift in deployment strategy. Rather than relying on centralized production models and complex grid connections, CIC is opting for decentralized, off-grid units that can be deployed in modular clusters. This potentially shortens development timelines, reduces permitting complexity, and provides a hedge against volatile grid energy prices—all of which are critical for project bankability and long-term offtake contracts.

The CIC–Jinko partnership underscores the growing convergence of the solar and hydrogen sectors, as established renewable players look to expand their role in the next phase of decarbonization.
