Aberdeen-based Glacier Energy has acquired Francis Brown, a fabrication business from Teesside. This acquisition aims to enhance Glacier’s capacity and capabilities, particularly in the hydrogen market.
With this acquisition, Glacier Energy’s workforce swells to over 300 employees, driving the company’s ambitious goal to double in size by 2028. Francis Brown, founded in 1903, specializes in manufacturing pressure vessels and structural fabrications for multiple industries, including oil and gas, chemical, construction, nuclear, defense, and renewable energy.
Earlier this year, Francis Brown earned specialist accreditations in hydrogen and carbon capture following a pilot program funded by the Zero Carbon Humber partnership.
Post-acquisition, Glacier Energy plans to expand its manufacturing operations across Stockton-on-Tees and Rotherham, enhancing its ability to support strategic sustainable energy projects.
This acquisition follows Glacier’s receipt of a substantial investment from equity investor BGF, which will hold a minority stake in the company. This investment will fund additional manufacturing capacities and the establishment of a technician training academy to support Glacier’s projected workforce growth over the next four years.
