The Korea Institute of Energy Technology (KENTECH) has received preliminary permission from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for the concept design of a new marine hydrogen production and liquefaction facility that was created in collaboration with Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE).
ABS is a leading ship and offshore plant certifying agency in the world. On May 2 (local time), an AiP certificate presentation ceremony was held at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), the world’s largest conference, in Houston, in the presence of representatives from KENTECH, KSOE, and the ABS.
The technology developed jointly by KENTECH and KSOE is a new concept offshore plant capable of producing hydrogen via water electrolysis on a nearshore coast, liquefying and storing the hydrogen produced, and vaporizing it for delivery to a client.
KENTECH and KSOE intend to continue their collaboration in areas such as feasibility studies and research and development for more hydrogen technology concepts, commercialization of R&D outcomes, and presentations at prestigious international academic conferences.
