Accelera by Cummins, the zero-emissions business segment of Cummins, has launched a suite of advanced decarbonizing technologies at the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo in Las Vegas.

The unveiling includes new versions of hydrogen fuel cell engines, a high-efficiency eAxle, and next-generation batteries, signaling a significant stride toward sustainable transportation.

At the forefront of Accelera’s new products are the FCE300 and FCE150 hydrogen fuel cell engines. These engines are designed to deliver higher power density, improved efficiency, and enhanced durability. The FCE300, with a 300kW capacity, is particularly suited for heavy-duty applications, while the FCE150, at 150kW, complements both mobile and stationary uses. Their modular architecture allows for flexible configurations, facilitating seamless integration across various platforms.

In the hydrogen fuel cell market, power density and efficiency are critical metrics. Accelera’s FCE300 and FCE150 claim advancements that could position them favorably against competitors such as Ballard Power Systems and Plug Power. These companies also emphasize high-capacity, durable fuel cells, suggesting that Accelera’s new models will need to demonstrate tangible performance improvements in real-world applications to gain a competitive edge.

eAxle Technology

Accelera introduced the next-generation 14Xe eAxle, highlighting increased energy efficiency and versatility. Available in both a 3-speed twin-countershaft and a 2-speed planetary transmission, the 14Xe is designed to handle higher torque, power, and battery voltage requirements. This eAxle is optimized for heavy-duty 6×4 configurations and medium-duty applications, such as school buses, showcasing its adaptability.
