Aggreko net zero program developing hydrogen-producing technologies

Aggreko is boosting its investments in hydrogen technology as part of its Net Zero strategy, enhancing the company’s ability to deliver emission-free temporary electricity globally.

At the moment, the company, which is a global leader in transportable and modular energy solutions, is concentrating its efforts on two fronts. A prototype 50 k/VA hydrogen combustion generator has been created in collaboration with clean-tech partner CMB.TECH. Following successful testing, Aggreko is now investing in ten additional units to meet increased demand for hydrogen, collaborating with clients and leading partners to test and validate hydrogen as a temporary power source. The system will be available for client installation throughout Europe and is Tier 4f/Stage V compliant without the need for after treatment, resulting in nearly no NOx emissions.

Additionally, Aggreko has teamed up with Nedstack to develop a fuel cell demonstration unit that will incorporate Comagre 1’s zero-emission hydrogen technology into the battery solution. The hydrogen hybrid vehicle is comprised of a Proton Exchange Membrane fuel cell and a lithium ion battery.

Aggreko’s headquarters in Moerdijk, the Netherlands, will test the zero-emission solution. Aggreko is investigating hydrogen technologies and fuel supply logistics in order to gain a better understanding of the technology’s long-term viability and application in temporary power generation. The availability of such technologies will assist businesses globally in reducing their own emissions.

Aggreko pledged last year to functioning as a Net Zero firm in all of its services by 2050. Additionally, the company will cut the quantity of diesel oil used in client solutions by at least 50% and aspires to achieve net zero emissions in all of its activities by 2030. To accomplish these aims, the corporation is expanding its use of sustainable technology such as energy storage batteries and hybrid solutions powered by renewable energy sources, while also prioritizing the use of alternative fuels.
