Aker Horizons will collaborate with UiT The Arctic University of Norway’s (UiT) Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology (IVT faculty) to develop the skills and competencies needed for future green industrial jobs through its wholly owned subsidiary Aker Narvik.

The partnership is part of Aker Horizons’ development of a green industrial hub in Narvik, Norway, where UiT’s IVT faculty offers several engineering programs.

Aker Horizons and its portfolio companies, in collaboration with local industry, are developing green value chains and sustainable export industries in the Narvik region, leveraging their capabilities in hydrogen and renewable energy. UiT’s mission is to provide high-quality education and research that helps the High North develop, create value, and grow. Engineers, civil engineers, and PhD candidates are educated by the IVT faculty in subject areas that are critical to the green industrial shift.

Aker Narvik and UiT’s IVT faculty will look into ways to collaborate to help undergraduate and graduate students write theses on relevant topics, as well as a doctoral student collaboration, such as through the Norwegian Research Council’s Industrial PhD scheme. The parties will also work together to develop programs for continuing education and training. Aker Narvik and IVT also want to start collaborative projects and position themselves to receive funding from relevant funding schemes, such as Horizon Europe, the European Union’s research and innovation program, which runs until 2027.
