Alberta’s government has committed CAD $57 million ($41.7 million) to propel the development of new hydrogen technologies across 28 projects.
This substantial investment falls under the province’s Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction program, reflecting a strategic push towards decarbonization and economic diversification.
The primary goal of this investment is to foster the advancement of hydrogen technologies that have the potential to revolutionize various sectors, including industry, transportation, and residential energy. Alberta’s Environment Minister, Rebecca Schulz, emphasized the transformative impact these technologies could have, envisioning a future where hydrogen powers not only industries but also vehicles, homes, and the broader economy.
A significant portion of the funding, CAD $7 million ($5.1 million), has been allocated to Linde, a global leader in industrial gases and engineering, to spearhead the installation of hydrogen production, distribution, and refueling infrastructure in key locations such as Edmonton and Fort Saskatchewan. This investment underscores Alberta’s commitment to building a robust hydrogen ecosystem, laying the foundation for widespread adoption and integration.
