Port of South Louisiana and AmmPower have signed a Letter of Intent to explore the feasibility of developing a green hydrogen/ammonia facility at the Port of South Louisiana.
To put it another way, PoSL handles more than $57 Billion worth of exports and $18 Billion worth of imports every year. As the nation’s busiest port, with a 54-mile riverfront stretch, PoSL ranks first in domestic trade and second in international trade.
This agreement calls for AmmPower to work with PoSL to find a suitable location for the proposed project and to assess the feasibility of constructing a large green hydrogen and ammonia facility to produce and distribute green ammonia for use as a carbon-free fue source. AmmPower and PoSL will exchange information on these aspects as part of their work together under the terms of the LOI.
Green ammonia with a high hydrogen content would be produced at the PoSL for use both domestically and internationally. One of the requirements of the LOI is that each party assign a member of its own staff to carry out the LOI’s mandated tasks and activities.
As a result, the company expects the project to cost in the neighborhood of $1 billion, and any decision to move forward with construction will be contingent on a number of factors and contingencies, such as negotiations with PoSL, the completion of a feasibility report, and the raising of the funds required to move forward.
