Amogy and ITOCHU unveiled a strategic partnership aimed at evaluating possibilities of utilizing Amogy’s technology for decarbonizing ITOCHU’s maritime fleet. The initiative’s announcement was made while signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
The California-based firm, Amogy, excels in providing ammonia-to-power systems that are mature, scalable, and efficient. In a fresh turn of events, it has partnered with the Japan-based global trading company, ITOCHU.
Amogy’s unique technology converts liquid ammonia into electrical power through a system termed as “cracking.” This system decomposes liquid ammonia into hydrogen and nitrogen, with the hydrogen then used in a fuel cell to generate electricity. Amogy and ITOCHU will jointly scrutinize opportunities for deploying this system on vessels managed by ITOCHU, whether owned, operated, or chartered.
Both entities plan a concerted effort to recognize suitable vessels, provide information for retrofitting existing vessels or designing new ones, offer project-specific expertise, and determine the project scope. This partnership might even branch out to include other projects within the broader ammonia and hydrogen value chain.
