ANDRITZ and HydrogenPro have partnered on scaling up manufacturing and assembly of electrolyzers for the European market.

This partnership brings together HydrogenPro’s high-pressure alkaline electrolyzer (AEL) technology expertise and ANDRITZ’s competence in manufacturing and assembly. The collaboration will allow ANDRITZ to include HydrogenPro’s technology in its EPC offering of green hydrogen solutions. HydrogenPro, as a fast-growing global green hydrogen technology company, will be able to speed up its technology offering to the European market.

The emerging green hydrogen economy is seen as a critical component in the fight against climate change, as it provides a clean energy alternative to fossil fuels. Electrolysis technology, which separates hydrogen and oxygen from water using renewable electricity, is a key enabler for producing green hydrogen.

According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), the production of green hydrogen will need to increase 40-fold by 2050 to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement. Europe has ambitious targets to build up to 40 GW of electrolysis capacity by 2030, which would require significant investment in manufacturing and assembly of electrolyzers.

This strategic partnership between ANDRITZ and HydrogenPro unlocks a significant potential to achieve these targets. The partnership combines HydrogenPro’s pioneering electrolyzer design and expertise in underlying technologies with ANDRITZ’s operational excellence and experience as an EPC supplier. This non-exclusive partnership will allow ANDRITZ to offer HydrogenPro’s AEL technology as part of its complete green hydrogen plants and solutions.

Sami Pelkonen, Executive Vice President Green Hydrogen at ANDRITZ GROUP, said: “ANDRITZ aims to become a leading global provider of complete green hydrogen plants and solutions based on different electrolysis technologies. We look forward to working with HydrogenPro to contribute to the increase in electrolysis capacities needed to support the emerging green hydrogen economy in Europe. Our expertise in plant engineering and turnkey projects will help us to successfully execute complete projects for our customers.”

Tarjei Johansen, CEO of HydrogenPro, added: “This strategic partnership unlocks a significant potential as it combines our pioneering electrolyzer design and expertise in underlying technologies with ANDRITZ’s operational excellence and experience as an EPC supplier. It is also an important step for HydrogenPro towards reaching our target of providing more than 5 GW of electrolysis capacity in five years. We look forward to building on this partnership.”

The partnership between ANDRITZ and HydrogenPro also supports Europe’s Green Deal and its ambitions to become the world’s first climate-neutral continent by 2050. The green hydrogen produced by the electrolyzers can be used in a range of sectors, including transportation, industry, and heating.

The partnership is expected to contribute to job creation in Europe and facilitate the deployment of green hydrogen technology in the region. The companies have not disclosed the financial details of the partnership.

In conclusion, the partnership between ANDRITZ and HydrogenPro represents an important step towards scaling up green hydrogen electrolyzer manufacturing and assembly in Europe. With ambitious targets for green hydrogen production in the region, the collaboration brings together two leading companies in the field to contribute to the growth of the emerging green hydrogen economy.
