Brazilian National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) closed the first half of 2020 with a total of 3,003.41 MW released for commercial operation in plants located in 12 states of the country. With this power, it would be possible to supply a city with approximately of 3.6 million inhabitants.
As a result, the target for new plants for the period was exceeded – which was initially 2,936.43 MW. In June alone, 141.47 MW went into commercial operation – almost three times more than that scheduled for the month, which was 54.84 MW.
In 2020, the highlights have been solar and wind power plants – each with 18% of the total capacity added to the system. Despite Covid-19’s pandemic, ANEEL has normally kept up with the expansion of electricity supply in Brazil.
In 2020, Brazil reached the installed capacity of 172,705 MW of inspected power, according to data from ANEEL’s Generation Information System, SIGA, 82.76% of this is driven by renewable sources.
