South Korea’s Hyosung Heavy Industries has recently signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Austria-based INNIO Jenbacher to carry out a demonstration project for a hydrogen engine generator.
This collaboration sets the stage for the development of hydrogen technology and affirms both companies’ commitment to advancing carbon neutrality.
Pioneering Hydrogen Engine Generators
Hyosung Heavy Industries and INNIO Jenbacher have joined forces to bolster the sales of hydrogen engine generators, a pivotal step towards achieving carbon neutrality. Their ambitious project involves the mass production of a ‘100% all-in-one hydrogen engine generator. This innovation is designed to help stabilize the power system by converging with renewable energy, compensating for the output variability of renewable sources.
The hydrogen engine generators have a unique dual-fuel capacity, able to utilize both hydrogen and natural gas. This flexibility in fuel choice, coupled with the ability to freely adjust the output and stop-start capability, offers significant operational advantages.
Harnessing By-product Hydrogen
The project shows promise in optimizing the use of by-product hydrogen. Currently, Hyosung Heavy Industries is gearing up to start a hydrogen engine generator utilizing by-product hydrogen produced at Hyosung Chemical’s molten fuel plant, a testament to innovative and sustainable resource management.
The cooperation between Hyosung Heavy Industries and INNIO Jenbacher marks a significant step in the evolution of hydrogen technology. By advancing the development and application of hydrogen engine generators, the two companies are at the forefront of driving the hydrogen economy and promoting a carbon-neutral future.
Their concerted efforts underline the importance of global collaboration in the transition to cleaner energy sources, exemplifying the kind of cross-border partnerships that are needed to combat the global challenge of climate change.
Future Prospects
With the mass production of the ‘100% all-in-one’ hydrogen engine generators on the horizon, both Hyosung Heavy Industries and INNIO Jenbacher are making substantial contributions to the renewable energy sector. As the global community shifts towards cleaner and sustainable energy options, this project heralds a promising future for the hydrogen economy and carbon neutrality.
