CEFC has invested in innovative solar energy technology with the potential to revolutionize Australia’s use of rooftop solar, delivering lightweight, flexible panels that can be used across a wider range of applications than existing glass panels. The CEFC committed $7 million through the Clean Energy Innovation Fund to the Sunman $12 million Series B capital raising, alongside company founder Dr Zhengrong Shi and Southern Cross Venture Partners. Sunman will use the capital to further develop and deploy the technology behind its innovative eArc solar panels and to optimize its installation processes. eArc panels, made from a lightweight polymer composite material,…

Global Energy Group has appointed Iain Sinclair to the newly created role of executive director of renewables and energy transition with plans to launch a new operation in Edinburgh. Inverness headquartered Global Energy Group has established itself as a major player in offshore wind, investing £90 million to date in its Port of Nigg facility in the Cromarty Firth to enable major infrastructure projects. Sinclair will join the senior management team and have a group wide remit to develop opportunities in offshore wind, green and blue hydrogen and sustainable infrastructure. “Iain joins us at a pivotal time as we continue…
Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, Seamus O’Regan, has revealed one of Canada’s largest ever investments in tidal energy — $28.5 million to Sustainable Marine in Nova Scotia to deliver Canada’s first floating tidal energy array. Sustainable Marine developed floating tidal energy platform called PLAT-I that has undergone testing on the waters of Grand Passage for nearly two years. A second platform is currently being assembled in Meteghan, Nova Scotia and will be launched in Grand Passage later this year for testing before relocation to the Fundy Ocean Research Centre for Energy (FORCE) in 2021. These platforms will make up the…
DNV GL has performed a technical due diligence on behalf of Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) to review an operational portfolio of 73 photovoltaic assets located in Spain with a total installed capacity of 216 MW. DNV GL’s role during this project was to evaluate different aspects of the solar PV plants located throughout Spain. These assets produce over 355,000 MWh annually, which is enough clean electricity to supply more than 115,000 households. “Spain has been a country where renewables have grown exponentially. It is in sixth position in the ranking of the world’s greenest nations, becoming…
Wizz Air airline has launched a carbon offsetting scheme as part of its wider commitment to reducing emissions, enabling passengers to calculate their flight’s environmental impact and offset the carbon emissions thereof. The scheme, in partnership with climate-focused technology company, CHOOOSE, provides passengers with the option to offset their journey by supporting trusted, high impact climate projects around the world. To account for their carbon emissions, passengers simply make a payment supporting a verified carbon offset and receive a certificate in return, recognizing the emissions they have offset. Wizz Air is initially supporting two verified carbon-reducing projects; The International Small…
DNV GL has released the first integrated rule set for floating offshore wind structures. The rules provide both new entrants and experienced stakeholders a set of well-tested rules and standardized processes for these new structures. “Floating offshore wind is poised to be one of the key technologies that can help build the renewable energy power base that underpins global decarbonization. By bringing many new players into the sector, floating offshore wind can create a massive space of opportunity for yards, vessel operators, and offshore companies. Unleashing this industry will require businesses from many different sectors and new types of standards…
ESA with France’s CNES space agency plan to power Europe’s Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana, with renewable energy. The Spaceport covers 700 square kilometers and comprises the launch range, three operational launch complexes with another under development for Ariane 6, and propellant manufacturing plants. About half the power at the base is used to cool buildings while energy-intensive solid and liquid propellant processes take up most of the rest. The yearly bill is several million euros. ESA and CNES plan to cut costs by reducing the reliance on the French Guiana grid and transitioning to ‘green’ and renewable energy sources…
Clean Power Alliance (CPA) has approved a new solar plus storage project, CPA’s first renewable energy project to be installed within its service territory. The Estrella project will be built by sPower and add 56 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy capacity and 28 MW/112 MWh of battery storage in the Antelope Valley area of unincorporated Los Angeles County. The project will generate enough electricity to power 23,000 Southern California homes with 100% carbon-free energy and serve 1.4% of CPA’s electrical load under a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA). The project will create approximately 200 construction jobs through a 5-trade project labor agreement. Operations…
Wisconsin’s first large-scale solar project, the 150-megawatt (MW) Two Creeks Solar owned by Madison Gas and Electric (MGE) and Wisconsin Public Service (WPS), has been completed and powering Madison-area households and businesses. Madison Gas and Electric (MGE) owns 50 MW while Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) owns the rest 100 MW. “We are excited that Two Creeks Solar is now generating cost-effective, carbon-free energy for all our customers. Growing our use of renewable resources is a key strategy for achieving our goal of net-zero carbon electricity by the year 2050. The completion of Two Creeks Solar is an important step in…
Esdec has acquired PanelClaw, the supplier of solar mounting systems for commercial roofs in the U.S. With the acquisition of PanelClaw, Esdec expands its customer base and portfolio of products available to the growing commercial and industrial (C&I) solar market. The PanelClaw acquisition is the European group’s fourth in the US solar mounting market in the past three years and its first acquisition in the commercial market segment. “I’m excited to welcome PanelClaw to the Esdec Solar Group. This acquisition represents an immediate increase in our US market share with near-zero overlap with existing customers and channels. We now offer…
