ACCIONA and Plug Power have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to launch a 50-50 joint-venture (JV) headquartered in Madrid. This JV will be a leading green hydrogen platform serving clients in Spain and Portugal, providing cost-efficient and competitive green hydrogen to multiple end markets. The parties expect the JV will develop, operate, and maintain green hydrogen projects, serving the growing demand in the Iberian Peninsula. The new company also plans to provide storage, transportation, and delivery services to its customers, initially targeting the industrial and the mobility business segments. The goal is to reach a 20% market share of…

OMV and Kommunalkredit Austria have made a joint investment in the construction of Austria’s largest electrolysis plant in the OMV Schwechat Refinery. Total investment will be around EUR 25 million, with OMV and Kommunalkredit each bearing half the cost. The plant is expected to go live in the second half of 2023. From this point, the 10 MW PEM (polymer electrolyte membrane) electrolysis will produce up to 1,500 metric tons of green hydrogen a year. “By building Austria’s largest electrolysis plant in the OMV Schwechat Refinery, we are making another contribution to reducing CO2 and to meeting climate targets, whereby…
AW-Energy Oy has entered the commercial hydrogen market by introducing a combined WaveRoller and HydrogenHub process for the production of green hydrogen. Its wave energy device when combined with other renewable energy sources, can enable significant green hydrogen cost reductions. “Wave energy holds the greatest potential to generate constant low-cost green hydrogen. Our WaveRoller process enables a green hydrogen plant to achieve much higher production capacities at reduced costs by complimenting wave energy with solar or wind.“Achieving carbon neutrality in many sectors will depend upon making vast amounts of renewable hydrogen. Because AW-Energy is the market leader in its field…
U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will provide up to $100 million in funding for transformative clean energy technology research and development via its Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy’s (ARPA-E) OPEN 2021 funding opportunity, n support of the Biden Administration’s climate innovation agenda. The Department will also participate in the National Climate Task Force’s Climate Innovation Working Group announced by the White House. The working group will coordinate federal government-wide efforts to foster affordable, game-changing technologies that can help America achieve the President’s goal of net zero economy-wide emissions by 2050, and emphasize research to bolster and build domestic clean energy supply…
Xebec Adsorption has received a hydrogen purification system order from FuelCell Energy. The order is for a Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) based system that will purify hydrogen produced by FuelCell Energy’s SureSource Hydrogen platform to meet required standards for fueling zero-emission fuel cell vehicles for Toyota’s operations at the Port of Long Beach in California. Green hydrogen will be produced from renewable natural gas (RNG) fed into FuelCell Energy’s trigeneration process, helping the port’s mission to lower carbon emissions and improve air quality in the community. “FuelCell Energy is excited to work with Xebec to deliver high-purity hydrogen. FuelCell Energy…
Plug Power has appointed Preeti Pande as its new chief marketing officer. As chief marketing officer, Preeti will lead and facilitate growth and increased sales by developing a comprehensive marketing strategy that will promote brand recognition and transform the green energy market through Plug Power’s hydrogen solutions. Pande has extensive experience in the fuel cell industry, having previously served in roles both as vice president of Product and vice president of Strategic Initiatives for Bloom Energy. “I am passionate about building world class teams to deliver products and solutions that customers love. Plug Power has transformed how alternative energy is…
Chart Industries has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Ballard Power Systems to develop integrated system solutions that include a fuel cell engine with onboard liquid hydrogen (LH2) storage and vaporization for the transportation industry. This collaboration will enable accelerated adoption of hydrogen in heavy-duty transport applications requiring long range, rapid refueling and lowest total cost of ownership of the vehicle. Liquid hydrogen is well-suited for the transportation industry as its higher density, lower pressure, and ease of filling via liquid hydrogen pump contribute to the ability for larger mobile equipment to travel longer distances. “Given both of our companies’…
Ørsted and PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE) have signed an agreement to form a 50/50 joint venture for the development, construction and operation of two offshore wind projects in the Baltic Sea with a total potential capacity of up to 2.5 GW. Ørsted will subscribe for new shares representing 50% of the total share capital in PGE’s two offshore wind projects, Elektrownia Wiatrowa Baltica-3 (Baltica 3) and Elektrownia Wiatrowa Baltica-2 (Baltica 2). Baltica 3 has a capacity of approximately 1 GW and Baltica 2 has a capacity of approximately 1.5 GW. The subscription price for the newly issued shares in…
Australian Gas Infrastructure Group (AGIG) has partnered on two renewable hydrogen project bids to the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA). In Victoria, Australian Gas Networks (AGN) – part of AGIG – is partnering with global low-carbon energy company ENGIE to develop a renewable hydrogen project that will supply carbon-free hydrogen at volumes of up to 10 per cent, to around 40,000 existing residential, commercial and industrial connections. The 10MW Hydrogen Park Murray Valley (HyP Murray Valley) project will be co-located with the West Wodonga Wastewater Treatment Plant and supply renewable hydrogen blended with natural gas to customers on the existing…
Cummins hydrogen fuel cells have been integrated into North America’s first commercial hydrogen fuel cell powered, zero emissions ferry (ZEF). The vessel, named “Sea Change,” marks a milestone in the commercialization of zero emissions marine vessel power. With a powertrain designed by Golden Gate Zero Emission Marine, the Sea Change is powered by Cummins’ 360kW fuel cell and can reach speeds up to 22 knots. The fuel cells are supplied with hydrogen from storage tanks creating electricity to run the electric motors and turn the vessels propellers, generating the ferry’s movement. With the ZEF only producing water and electricity as…
