Axpo is investing in a hydrogen production and distribution project aimed at revolutionizing the transportation sector in France’s Arve Valley.

The initiative, known as the “Arve Hydrogène Mobilité” project (Arv’Hy), is poised to introduce hydrogen-powered vehicles to the region, with plans for the first hydrogen service station slated to commence operations in the first quarter of 2025.

The primary objective of the Arv’Hy project is to facilitate the transition to a sustainable and decarbonized transportation system in the Arve Valley, spanning from Geneva to Chamonix. By establishing a comprehensive hydrogen ecosystem, the initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions and promote clean mobility solutions. With strong support from industry stakeholders and regional authorities, the project represents a significant step towards achieving environmental sustainability and energy transition goals.

The success of the Arv’Hy project hinges on strategic collaborations with key partners, including Atawey, a leading developer of hydrogen filling stations, and Jean Lain Mobilités, a prominent distributor of hydrogen-fueled vehicles in the French Alps. Axpo’s expertise in hydrogen production and energy management systems will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation of the project. Additionally, local partners such as LSBN and Crédit Agricole des Savoie will provide essential support in site development, financial expertise, and project management.

The construction of the hydrogen filling station in Vougy, Haute-Savoie, marks the first phase of the Arv’Hy project, with plans to gradually scale up electrolyser capacity to meet growing demand for carbon-free transportation. By 2025, the region will witness the deployment of the first hydrogen-powered vehicles, signaling a significant milestone in the transition towards sustainable mobility solutions.
