The Government’s Net Zero Hydrogen Fund (NZHF) has awarded financing for an innovative multi-million dollar green hydrogen production facility at the Ballymena headquarters of renowned sustainable bus maker Wrightbus.
The new facility in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, being built by Wrightbus in collaboration with Hygen Energy, will initially create enough clean energy to power 300 hydrogen-powered buses every day in Northern Ireland, subject to planning approval. The region’s hydrogen supply will be handled by Ryze Hydrogen.
In order to aid in the commercial deployment of fresh, low-carbon hydrogen generating projects, the government established the NZHF. Hygen Energy and 14 other companies received a total of £37.9 million as part of the government’s Green Day initiative.
