The BOC and Foton Mobility have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop the hydrogen bus market in Australia and New Zealand.

The agreement will see the two companies collaborate on the development of operational and commercial hydrogen bus models, including production, storage, and refueling, as well as leasing and maintenance arrangements.

BOC will focus on refueling infrastructure as part of the agreement. The vehicles, on the other hand, will be under the management of Foton.

In spite of this, manufacturers insist that hydrogen fueling is preferable to electrification for buses because it can be refueled in as little as 12 minutes and refuel 160 buses per day at one hydrogen refueling station. According to the companies, hydrogen buses have an additional 100 kilometers of driving range over the typical electric bus.
