Brazil is leading the way in renewable energy with the commissioning of a solar production plant at the FURNAS-owned Itumbiara hydroelectric power project on the border between Minas Gerais and Goiás.
The firm, which has a capacity of 1 MW, has two sets of photovoltaic plates, one on the ground and one floating over the reservoir water.
The project, led by BASE Energia Sustentável in collaboration with FURNAS, has an electrolyzer that converts solar energy into green hydrogen, which is then stored in a special tank and utilized to generate electricity via a fuel cell.
