Infinium, a producer of ultra-low carbon eFuels, has secured a significant funding partnership with Brookfield Asset Management. The deal, valued at over $200 million for Infinium’s Project Roadrunner in West Texas and up to $850 million for future projects, marks Brookfield’s first direct investment in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

Accelerating eFuels Production

Infinium’s proprietary eFuels, including eSAF (sustainable aviation fuel), eDiesel, and eNaphtha, can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90% compared to conventional fuels. Brookfield’s investment, made through its Global Transition Fund (BGTF I), will accelerate the production and deployment of these next-generation fuels, which are critical to decarbonizing aviation, shipping, and long-haul trucking.

Infinium CEO Robert Schuetzle expressed excitement over the partnership, stating that Project Roadrunner will help scale global supplies of eFuels to meet increasing demand, especially from airline partners like American Airlines. The airline has already signed a strategic deal to purchase Infinium’s eSAF starting in 2026 as part of its sustainability goals.

Roadrunner’s Impact on Multiple Sectors

The West Texas Project Roadrunner site will produce 10,000 tonnes of eFuels annually, including eSAF for aviation, eDiesel for trucking, and eNaphtha for plastics manufacturing. These fuels are drop-in replacements for fossil fuels, requiring no modifications to existing engines or infrastructure. The project is crucial for decarbonizing sectors that are challenging to electrify, such as aviation and maritime transport.

Brookfield’s Strategic Role

Brookfield’s involvement will not only provide capital but also leadership in Infinium’s Series C Preferred Stock offering. Jehangir Vevaina, Managing Partner at Brookfield, highlighted the importance of sustainable aviation fuels in meeting growing corporate demand for decarbonization while providing attractive returns. The deal positions Brookfield at the forefront of the emerging eFuels market, as Infinium progresses with several additional projects globally.

Expanding the eFuels Market

Alongside Brookfield, Breakthrough Energy Catalyst, led by Bill Gates, previously committed $75 million to Project Roadrunner, further solidifying investor confidence in the potential of eFuels. Infinium is working on securing additional offtake agreements to expand its presence across various industries and further contribute to the decarbonization of the global supply chain.
