Carmen Font, CEO of Font Corporation and a seasoned strategist in energy investments and market expansion has been appointed to the Energy News Advisory Board.
With 24 years of experience spanning corporate banking, government policy, and cross-sector scaling, Font brings a rare blend of financial acumen and regulatory insight to Europe’s evolving energy landscape. Her expertise in hydrogen project development, EU policy frameworks, and international market dynamics position her as a critical voice in navigating the intersection of capital, innovation, and decarbonization.
Font’s career began in corporate banking at Bank of New York Mellon, where she honed her financial analysis and risk assessment skills. Transitioning to the public sector, she served as Senior Trade and Investment Advisor at the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in Spain, steering energy and life sciences firms through complex market entry strategies. Later, as Director of Investments for the Gobierno de Aragón – Government of Aragon, she streamlined permitting and partnership processes for international companies—a role that solidified her reputation for bridging public-private divides.
Scaling Hydrogen and Clean Fuels
In 2023, Font founded Font Corporation, an investment and expansion firm specializing in high-growth sectors like natural hydrogen. The company manages a pipeline of projects across the EU and overseas, prioritizing technologies that align with REPowerEU’s 2030 hydrogen targets. Font’s hands-on approach includes direct investments in startups and her role on executive teams of hydrogen ventures, where she evaluates scalability amid volatile regulatory and cost environments.
Font’s influence extends to EU policymaking. As Chair of the EIC – European Innovation Council’s (EIC) Scaling Programme for Clean Fuels and Hydrogen, she mentors deep-tech firms aiming for unicorn status, emphasizing market readiness and funding accessibility. She also contributed to the European Commission’s Hydrogen Valleys roadmap, advocating for integrated infrastructure and regional collaboration. Her work with the International Energy Agency (IEA) on IEA Hydrogen TCP Task 49 focuses on natural hydrogen exploration, addressing gaps in regulatory frameworks for subsurface resource extraction.
A graduate of Solvay Business School (VUB) (MBA) with degrees in International Business and Digital Marketing, Font’s multidisciplinary training informs her systemic view of energy transitions. She emphasizes data-driven decision-making, a principle applied in her advisory roles for EU digital twin initiatives and carbon accounting platforms.
Font’s appointment reinforces Energy News’ commitment to analyzing the economic and policy levers shaping Europe’s energy future.
