China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) has recently unveiled the development of the first 100kg vehicle-mounted liquid hydrogen system in China, signaling a significant advancement in the country’s transportation sector.

The newly developed liquid hydrogen system, engineered by CASC, represents a notable improvement over its predecessor. With a 20% increase in effective volume and a cost reduction exceeding 30%, the system sets a new standard for efficiency and affordability in hydrogen storage technology.

Featuring a capacity of up to 100kg of hydrogen, the system is poised to power heavy-duty trucks, offering a remarkable range of over 1,000km. Reports from the Xinhua News Agency indicate that the system meets international standards in terms of quality, hydrogen storage density, and refueling time, underscoring its potential for widespread adoption.

The collaboration between Fives and Jiangsu Guofu Hydrogen Equipment Co. in February 2024 further reinforces China’s commitment to advancing liquid hydrogen technology in the mobility market. Leveraging Fives’ expertise in heat exchangers, cold boxes, and cryogenic pumps, GuofuHee aims to emerge as a leading provider of liquid hydrogen equipment in China.

China’s strides in liquid hydrogen technology hold immense promise for the hydrogen energy sector, offering a viable solution for clean and efficient transportation. As the country continues to prioritize sustainable mobility solutions, innovations like the 100kg vehicle-mounted liquid hydrogen system are poised to drive industry growth and environmental stewardship.

With ongoing advancements in liquid hydrogen technology and increasing investments in infrastructure development, China is poised to emerge as a global leader in hydrogen-powered transportation. The successful deployment of vehicle-mounted liquid hydrogen systems paves the way for a cleaner, greener future in the mobility sector.
