CB&I, operating as an unrestricted subsidiary of McDermott, has secured a significant contract from the Saipem Clough joint venture to execute the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of ammonia storage and various process tanks for the Perdaman Chemicals and Fertilisers Urea Plant in Western Australia’s Burrup Peninsula.

The project entails CB&I’s provision of EPC services for a 10,000MT full containment ammonia storage tank, along with associated piping infrastructure up to grade, and ten API650 storage tanks. The management of project delivery will be centered at CB&I’s Perth office, complemented by engineering, fabrication, and tank construction support from CB&I’s Plainfield, Illinois (USA), and Thailand offices.

Mark Butts, Senior Vice President of CB&I, expressed confidence in their selection for this project, emphasizing CB&I’s established leadership in constructing ammonia storage tanks. He highlighted their extensive experience in tank construction across Australia, which positions them to enhance their regional project portfolio significantly.

Construction activities are slated to start in the first quarter of 2025, with the project scheduled for completion by 2028.

The Perdaman Chemicals and Fertilisers Urea Plant is set to become the world’s largest gas stream ammonia-urea facility.
