Celsa has launched the ‘Hymet’ project with the aim of studying new technologies applicable in the steel industry for the revaluation of by-products of the process itself and decarbonization through the use of renewable raw materials, such as hydrogen, reported in a statement on Wednesday.

The initiative has a total estimated budget of 5.8 million euros, has been supported by the Center for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI), and has a grant of 3.9 million; Celsa invests about 2 million euros and the CDTI 1.2.

Hymet’ studies solutions such as the valorization of industrial waste by means of a reduction reactor; the generation of green hydrogen, and the study of CO2 capture and its integration again by means of electrolysis technologies for the generation of synthesis gas.

After a first phase of study and technological maturation, Celsa will continue working until the industrial deployment of the results obtained with this project.

The company aims to achieve “complete circularity” in the next five years and to become a Net Positive company by 2040, ten years ahead of the European Union’s decarbonization forecasts.
