Centrica has marked a significant milestone with the completion of a new 20MW hydrogen-blend-ready gas-fired peaking plant in Redditch, Worcestershire.
The Redditch plant boasts eight UK-assembled containerized engines designed to burn natural gas, ensuring stable electricity supply during peak demand periods. This capacity equates to sustaining around 2,000 homes for an entire day, providing essential support to the grid during times of heightened energy consumption.
In line with Centrica’s investment strategy in renewable generation, the Redditch project signifies a crucial step towards integrating green energy into the existing infrastructure. The plant’s adaptability to burn a blend of natural gas and up to 25% hydrogen highlights Centrica’s forward-looking approach to reducing carbon emissions and fostering sustainable energy solutions.
