McPhy has been chosen to equip the Centrale Électrique de l’Ouest Guyanais (“CEOG”), a power plant project combining solar energy and enormous storage of 128 MWh, mostly in the form of hydrogen.

The goal of this project is to provide consistent and continuous electricity 24 hours a day, seven days a week, similar to a thermal power plant but without the pollutants.

“The CEOG project is distinguished by its scale, its creative nature, and the participation of prominent manufacturers in an industrial spirit,” says Luc Poyer, Chairman and acting CEO of McPhy. We would like to express our gratitude to Meridiam, SARA, and HDF for initiating this forward-thinking project. McPhy is proving its technological and industrial capabilities to participate in the CEOG project by providing a 16 MW electrolysis platform capable of producing 860 tons of green hydrogen per year. This highlights McPhy’s technological competence and capacity to help scale up hydrogen solutions for the energy transition.”

The CEOG project, the world’s biggest hydrogen power station, will use hydrogen to massively store renewable energy.

The CEOG project, designed and initiated by Hydrogène de France (“HDF”) and developed with the financial, strategic, and operational support of Meridiam, a leader in public infrastructure investment and asset management serving local communities, represents a watershed moment in the hydrogen industry’s industrialization. Indeed, owing to hydrogen, this big initiative enables for the large-scale storage of intermittent renewable energy on an industrial scale that is economically possible.

The CEOG facility will create hydrogen that will be stored under pressure in tanks using a photovoltaic solar farm, a high-power electrolyzer (16 MW), a hydrogen storage unit, and high-power fuel cells. This hydrogen will then be recombined with oxygen from the air in fuel cells to create non-polluting energy 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and ensure the provision of competitively priced electricity to 10,000 homes in French Guiana, compared to the territory’s thermal power plants.

Each participant will contribute their knowledge in the domains of green energy generation, delivery, and storage to the project.

McPhy will deliver the 16 MW Augmented McLyzer high-power electrolyzer, which will transform the solar park’s electricity into renewable hydrogen. McPhy is a specialist in hydrogen production and distribution technology.

HDF is a global leader in hydrogen energy, developing and operating multi-megawatt Hydrogen-to-Power power plants with its high-power fuel cells to supply continuous or on-demand electricity from intermittent renewables.

Meridiam is a leader in public-sector infrastructure investment and asset management.

For more than 50 years, SARA (French West Indies refinery limited business, Group Rubis) has been a major actor in energy production in the French West Indies and French Guiana.
