Chiyoda and Axens signed a Joint Commercial Cooperation Agreement (JCCA). Through the use of methylcyclohexane (MCH) as a liquid organic hydrogen carrier (LOHC), this collaboration aims to support hydrogen supply chain initiatives and advance the integration of the SPERA hydrogen technology from Chiyoda and the toluene hydrogenation technology from Axens.

MCH is used as a LOHC in Chiyoda’s SPERA Hydrogen technology, which uses a highly efficient and selective dehydrogenation catalyst to create hydrogen and toluene from MCH.

With the help of high performance homogeneous catalysis, Axens’ toluene hydrogenation technology produces MCH from toluene and hydrogen with optimum energy efficiency. Axens’ unrivaled expertise in hydrogenation gained via process optimization and comprehensive catalyst research serves as the foundation for this technology.

Additionally, Chiyoda and Axens will work together to expand the hydrogen market throughout regions such as Europe, Japan, North America, Asia, Oceania, etc. By accelerating the growth of its hydrogen supply chain business through this joint venture, Chiyoda is able to contribute to the transformation of the energy sector, long-term CO2 emission reductions toward global decarbonization, and a sustainable future for the environment.
