For Linde’s new hydrogen production facility in Niagara Falls, New York, Cummins will provide a 35 megawatt (MW) proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer system.

By powering Linde’s biggest green hydrogen plant in the US once it is operational, Cummins’ electrolyzer system will make a substantial contribution to the development of the green hydrogen economy.

Linde will receive an electrolyzer system from Cummins that can be easily installed on-site and whose output may be increased as necessary. Hydropower will be used at the facility to run Cummins’ electrolyzers, producing entirely “green,” or carbon-free, hydrogen as a result.

Water is electrolyzed to produce oxygen and hydrogen. This green hydrogen can be used as an energy-dense, clean power source to assist in the decarbonization of a number of challenging industries, such as heavy-duty transportation and industrial processes. It can be kept as a compressed gas or a liquid.
