Danish energy minister Lars Aagaard is advocating for hydrogen to become a key element in North Sea cooperation.

While speaking at the World Hydrogen Week in Copenhagen, he acknowledged that the momentum for green hydrogen is currently lagging due to its sluggish and costly development. However, Aagaard is optimistic that rapid changes are possible if the industry commits to significant investment.

Cost and development time are major challenges for green hydrogen adoption. Despite these hurdles, the minister believes that with strategic investment, hydrogen could play a crucial role in future energy strategies.

A Danish-German hydrogen pipeline is delayed until after 2030, and Shell has paused plans for blue hydrogen. Meanwhile, a EUR 1.2 billion hydrogen project tender is attracting interest, though tariffs may deter Danish applications.
