An MoU between CWP Global and the Djiboutian government has been inked in order to build a 10GW sustainable and environmentally friendly hydrogen hub.

According to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the Power to X project may make the country a significant exporter of green ammonia due to its advantageous Horn of Africa location and excellent sea transit connections to other markets (MERN).

To diversify Djibouti’s energy mix and boost its renewable energy capacity, the country’s “Vision 2035” calls for the expansion of solar PV and wind capacity.

Following the announcement of earlier green hydrogen hubs powered by solar PV and wind in Morocco (15GW), Mauritania (30GW), and Namibia, CWP Global continues to expand its green hydrogen projects throughout the continent (5GW).

The renewables company is also involved in two other solar and wind-powered green hydrogen projects in Australia, including one in Western Australia with up to 26GW in which energy major bp acquired a 40.5% stake and became the project’s operator earlier this year. The renewables company has a pipeline of 140GW of green hydrogen projects worldwide.

“As we saw at COP27, the impetus is swiftly rising on the African continent to explore massive-scale renewables and green fuels,” said Alex Hewitt, CEO of CWP Global. At CWP, we take great pride in having a significant impact in bringing about Africa’s transition to sustainable, zero-emission economic growth.
