The Douglas County PUD will soon have access to an additional 409 acres near its hydrogen production facility and the Wells Dam hydroelectric power plant in the vicinity.

For a total of $4.9 million and $7 million, the PUD commissioners have approved the purchase of properties totaling nearly 92 and 318 acres from C&O Nursery Company and Global Ag Properties USA, respectively A leaseback agreement with C&O Nursery Company and a boundary line adjustment were also approved by the commissioners, along with a leaseback agreement with Zirkle Fruit Company on the 318-acre parcel of land.

When the PUD wanted to build, commissioners bought the land. In Baker Flats and the Wells Dam Project, the properties are ideal, she said, because of their proximity to the hydrogen facility.

In March 2021, Douglas County PUD began construction on its first hydrogen fueling station, which will be powered by hydropower generated by the Wells Hydroelectric Project.
