Two financing decisions totaling 28.5 million euros were given by Federal Minister of Economics Habeck for the development of a hydrogen storage power plant at the Schwarze Pumpe industrial park.

According to Habeck, this will result in the creation of a regional energy initiative. The Federal Government wants to deploy hydrogen technology to lower carbon dioxide emissions from industry, transportation, and energy sources.

The industrial park’s reference power plant consists of solar and wind farms. Water is split into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity generated by the wind and sun. The hydrogen is either sold or stored for later use. At periods when the sun is not shining and the wind is not blowing, a portion is transformed back into energy.
