The East Riding of Yorkshire Council has given the green light to a groundbreaking initiative set to revolutionize the region’s industrial landscape.

The project, known as H2H Saltend, spearheaded by Equinor, is a pivotal step towards achieving decarbonization goals while fostering economic growth and job creation.

The primary objective of the H2H Saltend project is to establish a 600MW blue hydrogen production facility, leveraging carbon capture technology to significantly reduce emissions from the Saltend Chemicals Park. By capturing and storing nearly 900,000 tonnes of CO2 annually, the project aims to mitigate environmental impact equivalent to removing 500,000 cars from the road each year.

The project will utilize carbon captured from the chemicals manufacturing site in Humberside to produce low carbon hydrogen. This hydrogen will be utilized in chemical processes within Saltend-based firms and neighboring industrial facilities, effectively replacing fossil gas and reducing emissions. Additionally, hydrogen produced will be blended with fossil gas at the Triton power station to further curb emissions.
